Cybersecurity Challenge

What is National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM)

We live in a world that is more connected than ever before.  The Internet touches almost all aspects of our lives, with Social Media, Cellular Technology, Email and the IoT (internet of things). National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM)  is an annual campaign in the month of October to raise cybersecurity awareness.  NCSAM was designed to engage and educate our community about cybersecurity.

Why take the cybersecurity challenge?

Our goal at the Computer Shop is to  help create a cyber-safe community here in Edgewater. We are continually educating our patrons via device consultations and personal lessons in cybersecurity topics. In the Challenge you will learn four easy steps to help secure your online information and reduce the possibility of personal information being accessed by unauthorized attempts.

What is the cybersecurity challenge?

The cyber security challenge is a six-day personal checklist from the ACSC (Australian Cyber Security Centre) that will take approximately ten minutes a day.  The challenge will educate on how to protect users from scammers, cybercrime and identify theft.  The checklist is downloaded from our website (see below) or pick up your copy at the shop free of charge.  We are encouraging participants to post what they have learned, their comments and any questions below or call for any questions. To enter the contest participants should email their name, phone number and interest in the contest to tech@thecomputershop386.com . Upon completion of the checklist participants will submit the form (signed and dated),  along with comments by completing the form below.

This maybe dropped off at The Computer shop or mailed. Please do not submit passwords, passphrases and or any other  personal information on the website. If you have any questions, contact us at (386) 223-8034 M-F 11am-7pm.

The contest winners will receive $10 off a service here at the shop.  Winners will be notified via phone and or email the first week of November.

  1. “If you put a key under the mat for the cops, a burglar can find it, too. Criminals are using every technology tool at their disposal to hack into people’s accounts. If they know there’s a key hidden somewhere, they won’t stop until they find it.”

  2. According to the FTC 2020 Consumer Sentinel Network Report, Florida is the second-highest state in the nation reporting fraud claims.

The Computer Shop “Cyber Challenge” was designed with the help of The Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC), to help educate consumers to be Cyber Smart. Whether you are on a desktop PC or iPad, the tips presented in the challenge apply.

Stay tuned for further posts throughout the next two months. Plan on attending our Cybersecurity class on Fri Nov 13 at 7 p.m., where we will discuss the Security topics of today: Scams, Identity Theft, Internet of Things (IoT), Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), Anonymity and more.

If you have any public security concerns, questions, and or comments please post them below for the community to read. Let’s all support one another and do our part in creating a cyber-safe Florida.
